October 27th, 2010 We are often asked this question and it is much like asking “How much does a car cost?”
The budget can vary from a small economical run-about, all the way up to a large, luxury vehicle. It also depends on the features the buyer specifies.
In order to get a reasonable budget estimate for a brochure, you should identify the following first:
- How many copies will you be printing? Remember you will achieve economies of scale by printing a larger quantity than a small one because the identical commercial printer set-up work is required and unless the paper you select is extraordinarily expensive, the additional paper cost is not a big factor.
- 1 color (often black on white, but not always), 2-color, or 4-color?
- Are there special ink requirements to match corporate identity colors?
- What type of paper stock suits your purpose? Postal regulations govern the minimum weight of stock required for self-mailers.
- What will be the physical size of the finished piece?
- What type of folding or special bindery (stapling, die-cuts, etc.) will be necessary?
- Will you provide high-quality artwork, or will licensing stock photos or commissioning professional photography be an additional cost?
- Will you provide copy, or do you require our copywriting services?
- When do you need it? Rush jobs always cost more, so plan ahead!
Don’t forget to allow a good two weeks for the printing process itself so the commercial printer can give you their best work.
Once the artwork for a printed piece has received your sign-off, a 4-color print job can take up to 15+ business days allowing for proofing, last minute changes, paper delivery, ink drying time and special handling.
Generally, printing a simple brochure takes 5-10 business days.
Failure to allow adequate time for the printing process is a common oversight – don’t let it happen to you!

June 4th, 2009 One of the most subtle “branding” tools you can use for your business on a daily basis is your email address.
But so many people miss the boat on this, and it could be because they don’t know how to set up their email applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, to use the available email addresses that come included with their domain hosting.
If you are still using “yourname@bellsouth.net”, or @gmail, or @comcast.net … and so on, for your business email address, this article is for you.
Here we show how to set up Outlook to use yourname@yourdomain.com as your primary email address for your business. You will still need your internet service provider’s (ISP) email address – but keep it for personal items, or subscriptions, or whatever.
What we are going to do is use your ISP to access your business email on your domain’s server and deliver it to you in Outlook on your computer.
This is very easy to do, it just takes a bit of description to take you through the steps. Okay, let’s get started. Continue reading Strengthen your branding! Use your domain’s email address
May 18th, 2009 Robert Farmer, CEO of Concept Communiqués, Inc., has been invited to participate in the “Reality Check First Coast” visioning exercise on Thursday, May 21st, 2009.
This visioning exercise, created by the Urban Land Institute, will bring nearly 300 public, private and non-profit sector leaders together from the seven-county region to begin planning for the year 2060 to accommodate 1.6 million new residents and 650,000 more jobs.
This exercise gives all of us the opportunity to understand the challenges facing our region and the ability to participate in the next steps and how we want our region to grow.
At the Luncheon & Results Session, we will present these results and give attendees the opportunity to share their input by providing electronic interactive preference voting on the region’s guiding principles and scenarios.
The invited participants are from Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties. Mr. Farmer has been invited to participate in his capacity as President of Third Planet (www.thethirdplanet.org), a non-profit operating foundation “Engaging the Public • Finding Solutions” for our long-term energy sustainability.
Robert Farmer is a power systems planning engineer, marketing communications specialist, and accomplished public speaker on power generation, energy efficiency, and climate change issues. He was a planning engineer with Bristol-Siddeley Engines/Rolls-Royce Gas Turbines Ltd. in the United Kingdom prior to moving to Canada and then to the United States.
The event takes place on May 21st at the St. Johns County Convention Center at the World Golf Village, St. Augustine. There are limited spaces for the public to attend the luncheon and afternoon session where the results of the exercise will be shared. To register by phone: call Customer Service at 1-800-321-5011.
